lets say your photo is L pixels vertical and W pixels horizontal. whatever are those values, the ratio of W:L must follow the table below. else, the printer/shop will crop for you, which might result in a lost head for eg)

3R - 3.5" x 5" - 7:10
4R - 4" x 6" - 2:3
5R - 5" x 7" - 5:7
6R - 6" x 8" - 3:4
8R - 8" x 10" - 4:5
S8R - 8" x 12" - 2:3

type - min recommended size(px) - max size(px)

3R - 525 x 750 - 1050 x 1500
4R - 600 x 900 - 1200 x 1800
5R - 750 x 1050 - 1500 x 2100
6R - 900 x 1200 - 1800 x 2400
8R - 1200 x 1500 - 2400 x 3000
S8R - 1200 x 1800 - 2400 x 3600
