Not very close...about 50cm away...guess the fly busy nectaring the flower.

If I select the SCN to be either nite portrait / nite scenary and I turn on the pop-up flash, why is it that my flash does not appear??
Is this due to settings issue or what?

Do u have a manual? It is a lot faster if u bother to check it up from there.

sure, there are many ways to change "film mode", here's one of it:
press quick menu (q.menu), and go to "film mode" (the leftmost icon), and scroll down to "D B&W", and then press "set" button to confirm.

like, faithsilence said, better if you read the manual too. lots of useful information there
