I'm waiting to get my hands on it too! Maybe Panasonic will announce the LX6 sometime this year with even more goodies than the LX5!

But there are some useful features missing in the XZ1 which are found in the LX5:

    a) XZ1 only as one aspect ration. LX5 has four of them... that too all native straight off the larger sensor without any cropping.

    b) AVCHD video. You can shoot for nearly 1 hour with the LX5. With the XZ1 you can shoot for only 7 minutes.

    c) A great grip on the LX5. XZ1 has none.

    d) LX5 can focus and silently optically zoom during video. I cannot find any info about this regarding the XZ1 as yet.

But these won't stop me from buying an XZ1 just to play with it for sometime and get a direct personal feel!

I believe it supports multi-aspect ratios and it supports optical zoom during video as well.

I'll consider buying from you once you're done

This might just be the new king of compact replacing the old C8080

Eager to see how the sample images look like

imaging-resource.com very clearly states that the XZ1 supports optical zoom during video... that is good news indeed. hope there is no noticeable focus hunting immediately after a zoom operation during video.

regarding the aspect ratio... none of the above two sites clearly mention the XZ1 allows for crop-less native aspect ratio like the LX5 does. Seems the aspect ratios on the XZ1 and cropped versions... but I hope I am subsequently proved wrong because I'd like it to be similar to the LX5 in this regard.

    F1.8 - 2.5,
    Movie 280 x 720 @ 30fps

    Better than LX5 & S95.

I just hope the low light AF performance is good too.

Yup! I have LX5 right now, the only problem I have with it is when my wife uses it :s

Auto is not good indoors so have to use P or A mode so that custom white balance / color can be used and thats when it fails in her hands but outdoors the auto white balance is good enough

Of course I dont have any issues with LX5 instead I love it for its sharp / wide + fast lens.

BUT have said all the above... I would LOVE to get my hands on the Oly when its around!

You can now tell your wife you're getting the XZ-1 because she keeps using the LX5

For anyone who is interested in this camera, you can probably have a look at this webpage (http://blog.pchome.net/article/373469.html) for some samples from prototype camera.

The XZ-1 looks good in this review: http://www.davidchuaphotography.com/...review-part-1/

However, upon seeing the recent sample images, I have concern about it having too much noise reduction, aka smearing in its out of camera JPEGs, which is the reason why I would want to buy an Olympus compact.

    b) AVCHD video. You can shoot for nearly 1 hour with the LX5. With the XZ1 you can shoot for only 7 minutes.

this is already "sianz" 1/2 ...

Not really, depends on usage, the PENs shoot 7minutes of video, I shoot at max a minute but that's how my school project has to be done, if you wanna shoot video, best go back to camcorders, dedicated ones shoot longer than an hour I believe
Cameras change with time, photographers do not

Would you really want to shoot a 1 hour long video clip?

My understanding is that you shoot 1-3 minutes of video clips and put it together to make a meaningful story. 1 hour continuously?!
