Nikon EN-EL3e battery lifespan
Hi
As the thread above, what is the normal lifespan of an original nikon EN-EL3e battery? Mine just died, and my D90 just crossed the 1 year mark not that long ago. Was wondering, whether is it common for a battery to die that soon..

mine cannot charge up liao...it blinks for like 5-6 times on the charger and then stops blinking which means fully charged..but when i put it back into my camera..no power..i tried it with my bro's battery and my camera powered up..so confirm is battery spoil..
Do u always use finish the battery(until the last bar) before charging?.

Re: Nikon EN-EL3e battery lifespan
battery lifespan varies greatly, whether Li-on or otherwise.
that's why the maufacturer only warranties them for a short period. usually six months to a year.
a lot to do with luck i think.

for Li-on battery, you should keep charge it when after used even it's only use 10~20%, do not use until complete deplete.

Mine just expired around the 3 year or so mark... 2 conked out liao... with the 3rd on the ICU bed. Now luckily I bought 2 more to replace the 2 dead ones.

Just to make sure, you might want to eliminate your charger as being the problem, if you haven't already... I know you mentioned checking the camera. I've got one in a D80 and one in a D300 that are still going strong after over 2 years, and if I'm honest after about... 6 years (?) of the EN-EL4 big brother I've never had any go dead. Although I've not had them for the full 6 years, I've certainly had some for 2-3 years comfortably.

My 3rd party one bought at the same time as the original still works....original one died while on an assignment luckily brought the AA batteries and tray along....main disadvantage with the AA is that the bar do not show usage and will remain full on the lcd, so you need to be conscious of the number of shots taken.

1 year and it died on u..
Only heard of 3rd parties have such short of a lifespan
I had mine still gg strong for 31 mths, to be exact...
Do note that factors like overcharging for long periods of time attributed to the life shortening..

Re: Nikon EN-EL3e battery lifespan
When you say overcharging, does it mean charging the battery longer than the recommened period or charging it after the slightest usage?

if you are using original Nikon charger, need not to worry about overcharging, as most modern (smart) charger will switch to ticker charge mode once the battery is fully charge.

All original... and I use them heavily for the 3 years... 1st 2 were alternated when I didn't have a grip yet. Then after I got a grip around the 2nd year mark, I bought another battery to supplement.
So these 2 which died out served me well for about 2 to 3 years with almost daily charging.
