Re: Fixing a VR problem
How did that happen to the cable? Friction due to a loose part?

In fact, zoom lenses are not fully sealed. There are some gaps to let air in and out for zooming.
So dust goes in and out of our lens
During reassembly, I just have to ensure that there is no visible or should I say no significant dust.
To answer your question, no , I don't think we need a laminar flow.
I'm not sure if any of those camera service centers or 3rd party shops here in Singapore have the kind of facility
Thank you for your kind reply.

Hi, I've having difficulties with removing the flexible board. How is it attached? With glue?

Hi Fatigue, you are such a wonderful man...met you a couple of times before. Great that you share with members. I have used this lens before - first version and I know how costly NSC charges for VR repair.

Re: Fixing a VR problem
My VR len has some problem. When I on the camera, it has a tak tak tak sound. Also, during len focusing, it seem to have sliding noise. Is it something like the ribbon cable rubbing against the lens?
I am a new owner to DSLR and overjoyed to have this camera. However, need to solve this problem. At the same time need to clean the lenses as it full of fungus. I could consider DIY but seem like getting the parts maybe difficult. Any cleaning solution to recommend? Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you.

the initial clicking sound is probably the sound of the VR motor activating... there should also be a short click when the VR disengages... the sliding noise is probably the lens elements shifting while focusing...
please do not DIY fungus cleaning... unless you want to void the lens warranty, and even then you shouldn't unless you happen to know how to take apart and put a lens back together again... just go to the service centre to get it looked into (you can also ask them about the lens sounds)... and consider a drybox/dry cabinet to store your equipment to reduce the chance of fungus in the first place...

Re: Fixing a VR problem
Thanks theRBK for your kind advise.
The initial sound when switch on the camera is tak tak tak tak, Four times. Then, it will tak tak tak tak again whenever certain button is pressed.
Ok will down by NSC to let them verify it. However, as this len was given to me, I am not sure if it is still under warranty. How many years of warranty for such len? Anyway, will check with NSC. Thanks.

How many years of warranty? 1 year
During the "tak tak" sound, look though the viewvinder and observe if you can see abnormal movement inside. If it's moving up and down or sideways, something must be wrong.
For a normal condition: during the "tak-tak" sound the VR element will rotate a bit to lock or unlock. No abnormal movement inside the viewfinder.
During the unlock mode: the VR element will be "floating", seated on 3 ball bearings and can move freely in it's X-Y axis
Fully booked for the month of May
