Re: Any darkrooms in SG for rental and to print images from MF negs?
If the darkroom is ready, we can run some revision courses for ourselves and others.
There are two types of printing :
Zone system printing based on paper grade 2
Paper grade (multigrade) printing
I just found my old Ilford 12 filters for multigrade printing. This will goto the dark room also.

Re: Any darkrooms in SG for rental and to print images from MF negs?
Alright guys, we are getting a little closer to the operational darkroom - I scoured around and found a used 12,000 btu portable aircon for $250 yesterday. I got sfoto's help to go down to Yishun to pick up the unit. The owner claimed that the aircon is only 1+ years old, despite the yellowing plastic, and the fact that the 12E model is several generations behind the current 12J. But beggers can't be choosers. This weekend Ernest and I will have to do some ceiling boarding cutting to try to get the exhaust tube installed. The landlord has asked me to report on the aircon consumption - so does anyone know of a cheap power meter? Maybe something like the Power Meter 900?
Here's the photo of the old-looking-one-year-old aircon.

don't worry about this power meter. I will supply you with one. Leave it to me.
I assume you are only running on Single Phase AC 230V , not 3 phase...
will get one for you this week
cheers,

讚!
Yep, it's used to track the electrical consumption of the portable aircon, which runs on a single phase 13A supply. Specification says this aircon runs at 3.4kW, but I don't suppose it will be running at peak load all the time.

You may be surprised it really does not consume that much. Maybe the enlarger lights and others in full blast might cost more.

Oh it's short for licensed electrical worker. oh I work in a place where we deal with many LEWs and so I thought you were one of them
From what I understand, portable air conditioning units are power suckers...

Why you guys so keen on a power meter? It tells you the consumption, that's all.
I can put in a PF correction , can save you substantial power......

Boss, a PF corrector changes the apparent PF but not the real PF. The revenue meter installed at every household measures real power, not apparent power.

You can bet that I would rather do without. That's the precondition the building manager insisted for the use of a portable aircon. The room was partitioned off from a corner of the canteen, and does not have its own metered circuits, so the manager is worried that I'll be using the entire building's electrical bill to cool down the whole of Hillview Road. You can bet that when we add the fridge to the place, I will have to add another of these gadgets to account for the usage.

That's pretty incredible! Did you also heavily heat insulate your house? My impression is that PF correction is only applicable to industrial settings, and many inductive appliance like air conditioners already has its own PF correction mechanism built in, which is where it really matters? Did you hack your power meter? :-)
Actually this discussion comes in pretty handy - while the SP Power meters measure only real power, these add-on meters probably only measure apparent power. So I will likely be over reporting the usage. Maybe I can find the power factor in the air con's spec sheet and apply the corresponding discount. But I'm sure the building manager is not going to buy this real apparent nonesense. He will just consider this to be a scam to steal electricity from him! :-)

I filed a patent in UK in 1997 on power conditioning. It is now marketed by russ Andrews audio accessories. My house is pf corrected for years too.

Pf unity compensates for var . It is the peak current at transient on off that multiply your meter reading. The device is safe and no heat.... If you play hifi it makes the amp works better. Of course the compressor work better too and less noise.....
