Which cat do u prefer?
Death’s Head Hawk Moth caterpillar (Acherontia atropos), in its yellow phase.
Shot at night, so experimented different lighting methods for foreground vs background. Background lighted up with my torch at slow shutter.
Which do u prefer?
Posted the photos and more colourful caterpillars here:
Macro Photography in Singapore - Exotic Looking Caterpillars in Singapore
#1 Black background, full flash

#2 Bright background, fill flash, slow shutter, almost wide open

#3 In between, dark green background

Re: Which cat do u prefer?
My bet is no.1 Yellow subject projects nicely in a dark bg. The 3rd one also looks good.

Beautiful cat & good shots nicky!

I would go with #1 coz the yellow stands out best with the black bg

I second chvictor's comment. Yellow on black just makes the caterpillar really pop out.

Thanks cameraone!
Actually my personal preference was #3. Started with #1, wondered how a non-black background looked like. Did #2, maybe too bright, and compromised with #3 with a dark green background for it to look a bit more natural.
