Re: Sharing A Few Butterflies Part X
Newly eclosed specimen from Kent Ridge Park, Singapore.
Delias hyparete metarete ( Painted Jezebel )
Of all the butterflies in Singapore this is the most common due to its resilience and adaptability. It is commonly sighted all over the island in particular at urban parks and the southern ridges, and even in the busy shopping belt of Orchard,Tanglin Road , Scotts road and Marina Bay area.
Other than the species adaptability to the urban environment , the success of this species could be partly attributted to the spread of its host plant Dendropthoe pentandra ( Mistletoe ) by seed eating birds. The hostplant is commonly found on road side trees , in particular the mango tree, the Singapore Rhodedodendron ( Melastoma malabathricum ) and a number of other trees on our road side and urban parks.

Brian,
Very commendable shots considering you have just upgraded from P&S to a "hijacked" DSLR setup from your dad.
May be he wanted a new camera...... so claimed you've hijacked his !!? hahaha.
looking at these shots...... no one will ever guess your age!!
Keep it up!!!

Re: Sharing A Few Butterflies Part X
Dr. Horace Tan , one of the authors of "" Caterpillars of Singapore's Butterflies " regularly share his works on Life History of Singapore's Butterflies at ButterflyCircle blog. He has recently passed the half way mark of recording 150 species out of the 302 species extant in Singapore .
He has just share the life history of the Acacia Blue
On the right side of the blog are the species he has posted to share with those who are into life cycle work.
Worth a read if you are into cat farming.
Cheers!
