ND filter recommendation on EM5 During bright daylight
I am thinking of buying a ND filter, how many stops of ND filter is require for large aperture during hot sunny day?
sometimes shooting large aperture during bright lights may easily get over expose.
All input are appreciated.
eg:
EM5 with 25mm f1.4
Aperture mode, F1.8, ISO200, 1/4000 sec
EM-5 Silver | 12-50 | 14 F2.5 | 20 F1.7 | PL25 F1.4 | 45 F1.8 | 100-300 | FL-600R

Re: ND filter recommendation on EM5 During bright daylight
you can simply calculate from sunny f16 rule,
on a sunny day, you shooting anything under sun light, (except at beach or snow scene) exposure should be f16 shutter = 1/ISO
from f16 cut down to f1.4 is six stops, but you just need to cut down two to three stops to stay within maximum shutter speed will do.
just get a two stops or a three stops ND filter.

portrait shots which will blur the blackground, hence require big aperture.

i am also thinking of getting a 3 stops ND filter which is enough to prevent over exposure.
but still hestitating whether should i also buy a 10 stops for other purpose (waterfall, streams, etc).
in other words, should i buy
a 3 stops and 10 stops ND filter, or
just buy a 6 stops ND filter (if can serve the same purpose of 3 stops and 10 stops ND)

I would suggest both 3 & 10 stops. Each serves different purpose.

I think hard to find ND110 at 46mm. You can try 52mm with step up ring. TK foto has most choices i think. Alternatively Hoya ND400 is pretty good too, it's 9 stops.

Hi akuaku,
His nick is VisionTechnik. He carry plenty of filters, but have to collect at redhill MRT at specific time. I got 77mm ND110 from him before, real stuff.
If you are getting and stay around clementi area, help me to get 46mm ND110 can?
. No obligation, just frustrated that my timing and his always not right to collect from him.

thanks for headsup, forgotten about the mass sales corner
ya, visiontechnik seems have a wide range of ND110, perhaps even more than TK and price is lower too, except the time to collect is rather restrictive.

Try 52mm? with step up? If next time upgrade to 9-18 or if use 12-50 can use back again? If buy 46 will be restricted. Just a thought.
