I won't as I want the compact feel of the camera. The grip kills the retro look

Whats the point? It will kill the whole compact and easy to carry around factor.

Its very nice, being 2 piece and all, but I would not. The camera is fine in my hands as is.

Actually if you calculate properly, the UK promo has already priced the cost of the grip into the price. So it's not really that worth it.
For me, I'm buying the EM-5 because of the small size. So no grip for me.

What's the point of the addition grip? I prefer the idea of the EP-3, interchangeable grip. The em-5 grip make it bulkier, people buy m4/3 for a much smaller interchangeable lens system, not something similar in size to a 600D and cost more than it.

The point is, there are people who needs a better grip than that of EP3. When a FT len is used with E-M5, it will be more in place. In wet weather condition, I am not sure if the EP3 grip will last. There is also a demand for portrait shooting with the 75/1.8 coming along.

i agree with Fezqu that the grips just make the E-M5 bulkier... and worse, ugly.
no more the retro look of an OM.

it only true for a 4/3 shooter migrating to m4/3 system. but then the AF will be too darn slow.
Contrast AF lenses is a little better. it is better to shoot fully 4/3!

using 4/3 lenses is simply too bulky & heavy on m4/3 camera. plus, there so many good m4/3
    lenses.

but will you be shooting with your E-P3 in wet weather?

i don't see a problem with the E-P3 large grip for portrait with the 45/f1.8 or even the 75/f1.8
but i can only reaffirm this statement when the 75mm is available.

Shooting with FT or other legacy lens does not necessarily need AF. It is a choice, hence they give u a choice to buy or not to buy.

I am talking about using EP3 grip on EM5. Not using EP3 in rainy days.

You do not see a problem is because it is from your perspective. There are 6 billion other people on earth. That is why there is a EPL, EPM and EP series for different users.

When we use a system, the overall weight is important especially when one travels. If I have a FT system and MFT system, this additional grip will give me better balance with FT lens or other lens from other systems. There are people who have the amazing Zeiss/Leica lens who would benefit from the grip due to their heavier weight. Again, this is an addition optional cost, up to individual to get it or not.

What I can foresee is Olympus will be coming out with a series of tele primes on mFT, which will mean that we can likely to see a 0.5kg 150/2.0 or 1kg 300/2.8

I wun buy the grip, but that does not mean i will not. The grip will be useful if u are using the larger 4/3 lenses Eg 50-200 2.8 - not to serve as a primary hold but it sure feels more secure than no grip. I tried the 50-200 on my EP3 - it does not feel good without a grip. Different strokes diff folks. I think its brilliant wat olympus did With this modular system - this gives the consumer more choices.

No, I am not worked up.

I just think that Olympus did a decent job to provide an option for users. Your views may differ, but that is expected of in a forum.

I will- just read Robin Wong's review. I have that same lens (75-300), and he's probably right about wanting to add a grip for much better ergonomics.

True, when you add a grip you get closer to the full DSLR sizes. But OMD + Grip + 75-300 is probably still the smallest and lightest 600mm equivalent around...

I am with you. It's the overall design including the optional grips that the OM-D is getting such attention now. I will not buy the OM-D without an optional grip.

MY is priced at MYR999, so likely to be priced SGD418 as RRP and about SGD370 street price? Promotion PWP in MY is MYR899.

Now that people have the OM-D in hand... will you be getting a grip for different ergonomics?
