Sleepy head.
Hello all! I'm new to photography and this picture was taken just weeks after I got my camera.
Taken with:
Canon EOS 60D
50mm f/8.0
1/320
ISO 400
1. In what area is critique to be sought?
Anything on the picture.
2. What one hopes to achieve with the piece of work?
The display of physical expressions through images that people can immediately extract and know what the image(s) says.
3. under what circumstance is the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
Daylight, in a boat on a sunny day. This person seemed tired after a day at Pulau Ubin and thus dozed off in the boat.
4. what the critique seeker personally thinks of the picture
One of the best B/W portraits done since I started.

Define 'anything' and the 'best' portrait.
Then maybe we might be able to help you out.

Anything would be composition, settings on the camera, framing etc.
Best would be one of the few eye catching (personally) photos I've taken and correct(if not close enough) settings to achieve this photo.

Re: Sleepy head.
All I see is a bunch of hair, a big nose with glasses resting on a bag. You showed the arms but they are cut off at 3 edges.
I do not find this picture appealing. Please try again.
Here are some tips for shooting portraits.
