Warranty on purchase of 2nd hand products
Hi all,
I just want to ask a question regarding buying 2nd hand products from the forum. I had read that some of the product's warranties are non-transferrable, so does it means that if i buy something online which still say has how many months of remaining warranty, i am not valid for it as i am not the original owner? I am new in this so do require all of your help and advice. Much appreciated!

At Canon's CSC, the Canon staff will ask you to produce the receipt and warranty card if the camera is still under warranty. You can call up the camera maker's service office and ask your questions, please let us know the result.
Canon 5D II, 20-35 f/2.8L, 28-80 f/2.8L, 70-200 f/4L IS, 100-300 f/5.6L, 100 f/2.8 Macro

that's what is written on the standard warranty terms and conditions. with the original receipt, it's sufficient proof of ownership. how will the service center know if u are the first owner or not?
if u are really paranoid, then buy new

yes . not valid. Thats why i dont get why people try to sell items with warranty as higher price. unless they bring it back to servicing if anything happens.

Isnt it standard that when posting as still under warranty, both receipt and warranty card is given?
After warranty, both card & receipt is not neccesary.

i see. But usually they will ask u for the warranty card etc which will have the original owner's name. Not too sure for cameras but last time i took my laptop for servicing they took my warranty card too. Anyways thanks for the information!!

Sony don't have this problem.
My friend brought his 2nd hand DSLR to Sony Service Center and they service it.
The 1st owner registered the warranty online.
They only check the serial number to ensure that it is still under warranty.

actually, if not wrong all the warranties T&C will state that it is non-transferable. however, it's always an internal policy for them to play around with to accept or reject. most of the time, as long as still warranty, receipt given and serial number matches, they will just service it.

With sony, they don't ask for receipt. They check the serial # against the registration database. That's all it takes.
