    Smile Technogadgets.com Reliable?

I believe this is a repost. I've searched the forum and there are at leasts 2 posts on this matter, but so far the posts i've read provided very few reviews of the online shop.

I'm planning to buy a Canon Efs 17-55mm IS USM from Technogadgets.I'm guessing there would already be quite a number of people that've already bought from this store since the price it's quite cheap compared to other online stores (notably DDE ?)

Wondering if anyone had any issues while purchasing from the online store? So far Tony (i presume is the boss?) has been quite responsive in my email enquiries. Maybe I'm just a paranoid because this is the first lens that i would be spending over 1k. It'd be great to get some insight here before i buy the lens this month.

    Thanks for reading

So far so good .. Theres shop warrenty provided, but for me i dun really bother about it. If i spend the money on the len, and i know the saving i made is sufficient to cover future repair cost, then its worth it. Just take a gamble that len is less likely to fail.

So far, all my item from them come in 1 piece, just like buying new.

Purchase a Zeiss lens from them once & just let you know a few pointer

    1) Do not call their place as Tony staffs' are all "blur king". Ask about pricing, refer me to Tony, ask about payment also refer me to Tony, & on the day I reach the place and was quite confusing, pass my call to Tony, its as if their company have 1 employee which is their Boss (I assume he is the Boss), the rest of them don't know do what...

    2) The place do not have any door sign at all, went in & ask about my collection & all the people down there look confused till I show my email

    3) Upon collection of my lens, the staff just pass me a parcel, she didn't even offer to open the package or to check the lens so what I do I have to walk to a nearby table and open the parcel & check the lens all by myself

Price wise they are quite competitive but services wise...

Tony is Not the boss lar, where got boss so free to reply email one .. Hahah , just another employee working for the big boss behind the scene.

A company that can do this kind of trading at such good price for buyer, it must be from some big organization with background, dun think they will bother to cheap us small potatoe ..

Agree, no service at all. The reason why i got from them instead of just ordering online and deliver by DHL is, at least if the len broke into serveral pieces during collection, they will be handling the problem. I ever purchase from online adorama website, the item is spoilt during transportation and i got no one to answer fornthe damage.

This is the reason I don't ever buy from technogadgets even for grey items.

    1) I don't really trust online shops
    2) I have no patience for waiting 4-5 working days. When I want to buy something = I need to use it. The only things I've bought online are from Amazon Japan in which they deliver it to me within 24hrs (fly from Tokyo to my home) and Olympus SG shop, which is also within 24hrs.
    3) I prefer to check goods on the spot for defects. I don't want to bring home defective goods and then, waste time sending to service centres for repair etc.

You forgot #4: you are richer than most of us

Anyway, just to let u know, pt #3 is not valid. You get to check on the spot, can take as long as you want because the staff won't disturb u at all. I took about 1hr the last time I bought from them.

Btw your #2 contradict with #3

Haha, yeah. Their so called "poor customer service" is something I like alot, cos no rushing u to go off.

I tested a couple of Sigma lenses so was checking to ensure no focus issue. For me, it's a pleasant experience dealing with them.

For me, i am prepare to paid for calibration cost if there is focus issue with 3rd party len. But i will see how they respond if such situation arises.

Generally i tend to buy original camera lens from them, from my experience, its highly unlikely to have focusing issue.

Sometimes the local len is really selling at such a high price, i dun really find it worthwhile to pay for warrenty, eg nikon 50mm f1.4G ..

    nope I'm a poor salaryman

anyways, #2 not contradicting with #3 lah, cos what I buy from Amazon Japan are things like books and CDs, not camera stuff. Olympus SG are accessories like neck strap for cameras. For body and lens, I've never bought online before

Ordered my 70-200mm f2.8 from Technogadgets. Start-to-finish took about 7 days IIRC. No issues, and the seller was responsive to queries.

Think its quite ok. Have a friend who bought the same lens and simply collected the item about a week later at tower B(?) of Ngee Ann City. Don't think the staff there actually work in the industry. They seem to be there for someother reason and the office simply ... exist. Quite a strange little place. Other than that little quirk, everything is a-ok.

I bought a Nikon 24-70 from them recently and it was fast and reliable. Just took them only 3 days from processing to me collecting the lens. Agree that the staff there are blur, just contact Tony directly for any queries.

Have to agree with the others that it's best to contact Tony directly. Otherwise, they are pretty reliable and the service is decent.
