Re: Official Canon EOS 7D User Thread Part I
Hi guys, I realised that my sigma 18-200 lens is slightly focusig at the rear. I testes out sing a magazine with few sentences of wording, mounted my camera on a tripod and aim at the wording vertically at a 45 degree angle.SIded spot AF with evaluative metering with full auto mode on my 7D. I find that it focus more at the rear rather than at the center where I aime at. I understand that a micro adjustment whereby we can offset the rear/fore focusing. The question now is which one and how much offset should I set. There's adjustment on lens only and both body and lens. If I set all does it mean if I use another canon lens will it be affected?

Re: Official Canon EOS 7D User Thread Part I
You should adjust by lens. + is for front focus, - is for back focus. As to how much to +-, depends on how bad the situation is. In short, you must trial and error.

Re: Official Canon EOS 7D User Thread Part I
hi ,
I just found after i setup Custom User Setting (C1/C2/C3) with manual iso speed and switch dial to choose the one , in some way the camera will lock my iso speed setting . In this condition it makes the iso speed button ( near the upper lcd ) is doesn't work at all , when i saw inside the camera setting , the iso menu became grey ( means can be choose ) .
Is this ever happen to your 7d also ? or is this the way of the Custome User Setting does ?
My current version of firmware is 1.2.2 ( the latest version ) .

Can you please advice me the best setup for bird in flight shot?I kinda confused too much setting to do.

I usually use Canon 7D to shoot sports, fast action .... I don't pixel peep for sharpness, because there is no point, the action is already gone. If missed, can't ask them to do the same action again
. I do check all exposure is proper before a session.
With stationary subjects, it's fine to check, that way one does not have to go back and reshoot. If it's a person /animal that you can only have the opportunity to shoot just once, shoot in bursts (i.e. lift finger from shutter button for a while, reshoot), not continuously (i.e. finger pressed on shutter without lifting, as wrong focus will be wrong anyway for the whole series).

The Custom Settings are just quick selection to some pre-determined combination of settings one prefer. Once in any of the C1/C2/C3 mode, you can still change any of those settings, including ISO.
I preset these for Macro/WA/video. Have updated to firmware 1.2.2 too without problem.

For example, you spot a bird in flight. Or, you see a fancy sports car coming your way.
This is one of the killer functions my 500D doesn/t have, and makes me appreciate the 7D even more. I shoot at Universal Studios quite often and this is how I set mine:
C1 is set for AE bracketing +/-2/3 ev with cont drive to catch the mascots.
C2 is my 'action mode':
Tv 1/1600sec, auto ISO, CWA metering, cont drive
AF point expansion
C.Fn III -1 Tracking sensitivity: Medium slow
C.Fn III -2 0 (AF priority/Tracking priority)
C.Fn III -3 AI servo AF tracking method: Cont AF track priority
Perfect for the WaterWorld stunt show.
C3 currently unused.

Re: Official Canon EOS 7D User Thread Part I
any 7D user here used phottix battery for the camera?
is there any problem with the accuracy with the battery indicator?
cause i was thinking to get a phottix battery instead of original canon battery.

Re: Official Canon EOS 7D User Thread Part I
Hi guys ,
My 7d raises Error Screen ERR-02 ( Accessing problem into the storage card ) , it happen couple times , and this is an intermittent issue .
I've used the Sandisk Ultra 8G ( 30MBytes / sec ) , and it's from the original kit .
The workaround solution right now : i just restart the camera , and it's normal again .
I'm also do the check disk tools on my pc , and the report show that this cf card is normal ,
there is no bad sector found , the R/W load is good enough ( average 25MBytes/sec ) .
Asking :
Is this problem from Canon 7D or Storage Card ?
Are guys ever facing this kind problem ? if yes , would you mind share the solution ?
The difficult part was intermittent issue , thats why even i can not simulate this problem and show it to the canon service center :-( .
