Err01
Hi
I keep getting this error, Err01 on a Canon 550D and the Tamron 17-50mm lens.
I have cleaned the lens contacts every time, but the error keeps coming back after a few shots.
Can anyone help?

Re: Err01
It could be the lens, to be sure, swap out the Tamron for a canon lens and see if the same result occurs.
If so, it could be the camera

Hi,
See if any of your friend holding a canon DSLR can accomodate your tamron lens. If ok, then it could be something to do with your firmware or Lens Perpherial issue. Otherwise, back to the shop/ agent to demand for a replacement until you get one working set.
Not sure if CSC will entertain. Reason is that they would just tell you the problem lies with the 3rd party lens and nothing to do with their DSLR body.
Keep us posted on the outcome. Such incident is pretty rare.

Re: Err01
Have you try cleaning the DSLR contact, since you have only done so with your lens. Check to see if rust or oxidation had occured in those area.
Also try taking out your battery, took out your memory card too, place them in again later.
Also try resetting your whole camera (all the settings and stuff).
Hope that help.

Re: Err01
It could be a broken flexble cable. This cable connects the lens PCB to the aperture control.
Once the cable is damaged, the aperture doesn't work.
Quite a common problem for both Tamron 17-50mm F2.8 (EF mount) and Canon 17-85mm USM
To confirm the problem, try these simple steps
turn OFF and ON the camera
1. shoot at maximum aperture(F2.8 for Tamron)
2. shoot at any aperture other than max aperture (for ex F8, F9...)
If no problem in step 1 but with ERR in step 2, then it's flexible cable problem

Re: Err01
Try the same test at 50mm. Try at maximum and other aperture.
Problem should be quite obvious at 50mm since the cable is fully extended.
Any cracks will be disconnected

Re: Err01
I got this problem with my Kit lens...
The problem does not lie in your body but the lens.
I took my kit lens to CSC and was told by the technician that my front and back focusing... plate/motor or whatever the name was..
A fragile stuff inside my lens broke...It cost me 100bucks to change it.. With GST and some other Charges... Cost me a total of 118...
Enough to get me a second hand kit lens..
Anyway good luck with your 17-50... Hope that it still comes with warranty. If not... Might cost you quite a fair bit

Re: Err01
I got err001 on my 24-105 during my recent trip.
cleaned the contacts and tried, ok for a few shots then err001 appeared again.
after a few rounds of the same occurrence, I sent the lens to CSC upon return from my trip.
Was told that it was due to failure in one of the group elements (i think diaphragm assembly or something).
they got to replace the failed parts, and I paid $237.50 for the repair.
waited more than 1 week also due to lack of spare parts.

It should be the same problem. The flexible cable is part of the diaphragm assembly/aperture mechanism. The whole assembly is replaced whenever the flexible cable is damaged

Re: Err01
I just encounter the same problem right now. I hv purchased a used Tamron 17-50 frm a fellow CS some months back.
Q: Does anyone knows how much the repair will cost for Tamron (if warranty expired)?
Q: Does anyone knows how to check a Tamron lens warranty?
Thanks fella.
