Ok, I shall go see the 3rd party holder this weekend. I usually have a uv filter on my lens, stacking more will induce vignetting. If the lee is filter thread only, then I think I will go 3rd party.Originally Posted by Minglink

Let me rephrase my question:
1. For Lee Foundation kit, I screw the adapter ring to the filter threads in front of the lens, be it directly onto the lens or on an attached UV filter. I can even screw on UV, CPL, ND before I put on the adapter ring. This will cause vignette on UWA lenses as the Lee holder now sits further away from the front lens element.
2. For the bayonet mounting kit, the adapter ring fits into the hood mounting clips thus the distance between the front lens element and the first slot-in filter is always constant. There will be a gap between the adapter ring and the front lens element, my question is: how many filter(s) one can screw onto the front lens element before it hits the first slot of the bayonet holder?

Life through the Lens
hi all, just to update this thread a bit. i bought the hitech gnd kit set from tk($200) + 3rd party holder and adapter from op($88 + $25).
i didnt buy the bayonet mounting one cause' op was oos, further more the price was $48 for the adapter, kinda steep i feel.
got the filter thread version instead, try it on my 7d + 10-22, looks good.
there is however a wee bit of vignetting at the corners. i had the adapter + holder attached to the uv filter.
just very very little only, not noticeable if you dont look for it. can be easily recovered in pp.

why didn u get the LEE holder? Hmmm.
have you tried stacking the 0.3 with 0.9? if theres any more vignetting?
Today I spent 2hours walking from TK -> CP -> SLR. Looking at prices, considering and thinking. Here is what i have roughly decided base on a beginner, pure hobbyist and serious traveler(lots of money need this dept) :
1. CPL and Vari ND are out.
2. I realize. I m gonna get the cheaper alternative 10stop/9 stop available ND filter. Not getting the S$145(B+W filter). As I wont be using this lens as often and i m still learning. (save $$)
3. I am going to get the Cokin P series Holder and adapter ring. Hitech Set and 1 x reverse grad (25 +18+ 80+80) = $203
i dont see the point playing $200 on Lee Holder, $200 for the Hitech Set and $120 for the Reverse Grad and maybe 1 GND hard at 90 = $$610
that like 400 bucks difference. Hows the vignetting gonna be like btw guys? for those who use the 84mm x 100mm square filters on the.
already spent (1094 on the lens lol)
REALLY tempted to just get the cheap Special Package - Hercules Square Filter Basic Kit - Sgcamerastore.com Photography Camera Accessories - (Powered by CubeCart) and play around or tian-ya. LOL.
please advice. willing to listen to those who are more exp over here.. =D
I saved 50 bucks by going 3rd party. And like you said, as hobbyist we have to strike a balance between the cost and quality of product.Originally Posted by filmoman
With the 50 bucks saved, I can invest in another piece of filter if need be, plus the 3rd party works just like the lee, but of cause' lee has better built.
I haven't try the filters yet, not sure about vignetting when stacking filters.

I seldom shoot out door and this morning was one of rare occasion I did. I was using Cokin P holder with a single Tian Ya GND filter on 7D with 10-22mm.... pretty bad as it was very obvious in the frame...... and even at 22mm, I still can see the both side of the holder..... Framing within frame????
Now..... I am seriously considering the Lee..........but I also thinking of the 600EX-RT............ mmmmm...........

Art is perception; Perception is art.
The Cokin P is flimsy alright, but is much better than the Tian Ya.... when I screw in the adaptor.... I hear my lens' filter thread pleading me not to torture them!!!!
No offense to the Tian Ya users.........
So I am thinking of just that "ONE" move... to the LEE FILTERS........

lee filter is grossly out of reach for me. easily 800-1k for a start up kit.
-lee foundation kit + 77mm adapter
-gnd kit set(0.3, 0.6, 0.9)
-big stopper
-misc stuffs like pouches
the 105mm cpl is 399 liao! omg!
total cost can replace my current ones 2x with change to spare or rather, top up a bit can buy another 10-22.
no prob~

I know.... i also thinking very hard..... but i concluded if shooting outdoor, u surely will encounter days u hv to combine filter, n hitech, cokin, tian ya do hv color cast issue...... so the lee can give better color n i also like lee big stopper color better......Originally Posted by tecnica
Cost.... if u start shooting n feel hitech is not good enough, n upgrade, will cost more too....... mmmmmmm......
