Panning & Action Photos with S10 - by Sulhan
Panning & Action Photos with S10 - by Sulhan

Fast cars and high speed races!!!......Now you will not miss any chance to snap your favourite racing cars, cyclist, runners etc. No more problem of 'subject' out of the frame problem. How???...Even with the S10's not so fast shutter speed??? Yup!! just with a little logic (not really!!) we will now have better chance to catch action and panning images succesfully!!.

I'll share this little procedure which should be easily experimented and i'm sure you would be quite happy with the results. Equipment needed is just your faithful S10, fully-charged batteries (tripod stands are optional) and a good event ....such as a race. Okay without any more delay..here it is........

Prepare yourself for the photoshot with things mentioned above.. Spare batteries if you were doing this in "experimenting" mode.

1. Proceed by packing all these items........and head for the event..

SETTINGS:

Set the camera to the AUTO mode (a must!! to ensure on the dot shutter activation). Preferably the image is to be taken with good lighting - during the day.

2. As this procedure requires pressing the shutter-release button half way (in that position) for a few seconds before the shot is taken.....go ahead and practice pressing the button half way - you should hear the camera beep twice indicating an exposure reading taken.

Holding Method: Hold the camera with your arms fully stretched.

Look through the view-finder to roughly see the viewing angle of the camera at where you are standing. As you would be holding on to the camera while shooting, an idea of the viewing area is crucial as you will not be taking the photo while looking into the viewfinder.

3. Now look at the position of the object , for example a car, which would come by for you to snap a picture. Start pressing the shutter release button halfway pointing in the genereal direction where the subject is to pass-by (in front). This means that the metering readings is taken before the object arrives infront of you. You may want to follow through the subject movement to do a panning( i.e back ground blur...+ subject in focus .....to give the motion effect)

This would not be a problem as the surrounding light would not have changed in a very short time. Therefore, the metering info should still be 99% correct - just like as if the subject is stationary in front of you and the photo taken.

4. With your camera held firmly(see below for an illustration on how to hold the camera), as the subject move into the viewing angle, fully PRESS the shutter button.

This would be quite trickiy for the first time, but as you practice.....you should be able to get great shots.............ALL THE BEST YOU GUYS!!!!

One of the on the move shots that was taken with the method above.

stay tune......for more.......
