ClubSNAP @ Singapore Street Festival
(31 May - 15 June 2003)

The Singapore Street Festival kicked off on the 31st of May with the arrival of SSF Patron Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister of State for National Development. The aim of this festival is to give young people and avenue to express their creativity, expose their talents and promote awareness of street culture. Many individuals and groups had signed up for the street festival to perform their whole range of impressive talents. Some ClubSNAP members had the privilege to photograph this revolutionary event which lasted for a total of 15 days.

Needless to say, there were a multitude of various street performances and talented youths expressing their creativism through different forms of street culture. Singers, rappers, live bands, sculpture, various forms of dance performances, even free style kickboxing. You name it, they've got it. Most of the performances were held along Orchard Road where curious passersby were entertained by the cornucopia of street art and culture. Even the SARS epidemic which had turned Orchard Road into a ghost town could not stop the invasion of the street festival. Orchard Road roared to life once again.

The festival ended on the 15th of June with the best and most creative performers walking away with attractive prizes. As for those who left empty-handed, they were nevertheless happy to have displayed their talents and be appreciated for it. It was a great learning experience for them as well as the public on what street culture was all about as well as how to bring out the creative soul within us.
